Christopher Bo Shields
Co-Founder & Platform Director
Christopher’s career started in theatre – in 2001 he founded his first venture ‘Lock On Productions’, a full service event production agency. In 2007 he joined forces with Alex Hughes to co-found AMIGO, a creative agency servicing the growing Digital Out of Home industry. In 2019 he launched Binumi Pro – an innovative app that allows clients to shoot and manage their own video.Over the past few years Christopher’s mind has been somewhat occupied, being the architect of the Totem Virtual & Hybrid event platform. Chris likes Jamon Ruffles, kites and planes and is a professional daydreamer.
Co-Founder & Client Director
Alex has a background in digital media, leading creative teams across the industry – ‘90s agency Deepend, ITV Network and MTV Networks Europe. He also worked on early iterations of the online presence for itv.com and Interactive TV propositions across ONdigital and SKY including The Brit Awards, Survivor and the MTV Europe Music Awards. He co-founded Amigo with Chris Shields in 2007, offering creative technology services for MediaWalls, Digital Signage and DOOH. After many years of trying, he has yet to stand up on a surfboard, so now snowboards instead. He remains horizontal.
Sam has worked in the events sector for over a decade, co-ordinating and managing events in locations around the world including Singapore, Rome, New York, Birmingham. As Managing Director of Totem, she is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the business, delivering excellent services to our exceptional range of clients. In her spare time, Sam loves watching F1 and pretending Swindon’s ‘magic roundabout’ is in fact Eau Rouge.
Ross joined Totem in 2018 bringing a broad range of technical skills and knowledge to build software. He has developed to production and maintained multiple cross-platform applications throughout the e-commerce, fintech & entertainment sectors. Managing cross-region teams, technical planning & coding are all part of his day to day. He believes that Friday is reserved for Tommy Bahamas and whenever possible jets to India to be with his friends and colleagues, biking through the beautiful Munnar tea mountains of Kochi.
Giulia has been working in the Video Production industry for over 10 years. Thanks to her organisational skills her career evolved into Company Ops and “Capacity” has been her favourite word since. Giulia has a real passion for anything techy, has watched every single TV series ever made, loves pizza and deeply cares for animals and the planet. Even though she moved to the UK 8 years ago, she has never had a pint.
Rob brings a wealth of experience to Totem having scaled two successful events businesses over the last 20 years. He draws on that experience to help leading brands change the way they deliver events.
Rob’s big passions in life are food and skiing – a restaurant halfway up a mountain is about as good as it gets. When not skiing or eating he can be found enjoying the Yorkshire countryside with his daughter and Hector the dog.
Creative Director - Platform
Richard’s experience is in graphic design, video and events. He enjoys thinky creative tasks with colleagues and long romantic walks to the fridge without them. He likes colouring in, staying in the lines and sometimes making doodles move. He does this for business and for pleasure, sometimes even at the same time whilst making Mexican food.
Creative Director - Success
Experienced creative director, lead designer, editor, videographer, account manager, technical support assistance and much… much… more! Making projects happen with creativity, agility, and a broad skillset, Calum also does a bit of gym, running, DIY, cooking, charity bits and challenges. Two truths one lie… is a non-identical twin, previously a registered gas engineer and once beat Gareth Gates in a throwing competition back when people vaguely knew who he was.
Ines has a passion for people, problem solving, and animals. That includes the dolphin at Sea World that bit her in 2002. With a background in Journalism and Politics, she is equipped to guarantee project success and manages video production, design projects and clients. In her free time, she enjoys long walks on the beach and travelling.
Before joining Totem, Lily worked for national charities Mind and Refuge, managing mass participation events. Over the years she has helped supporters raise over £2 million for good causes. When not at work, Lily will most likely be out on a run training for her next challenge. Her running buddy Ned the springer spaniel, keeps her company and helps set the pace.
Abby loves ‘Making Things Happen’ so after graduating from Brighton University in 2015 (Illustration) spent five years working as an arts producer. She has collaborated with international stakeholders – MoD, Southbank Centre, Wellcome Trust, WHO – to deliver complex projects focusing on interactive media and new technology. At the weekends you can find Abby singing Madonna in a karaoke bar or, if she can’t get anyone to go with her, in front of the TV with a kitchen utensil.
Head of People Culture & Talent
Thomas is a dedicated and committed Human Resources professional, with over fourteen years management and leadership experience. He is responsible for all aspects of the people function at Totem Virtual & Hybrid Events, which includes equality & diversity, employee wellbeing and organisational culture. Outside of work he owns a vast board game collection, is a regular at the theatre and uploads gaming videos to his YouTube channel – which has an embarrassingly low subscriber count.
Togs has had too many years he cares to mention in the Design industry: working on high profile brands though-out his career including Smirnoff, Johnnie Walker, Royal Mail, Coca-Cola and has been part of numerous branding projects. Togs found his niche in animation and digital campaigns where he now remains as Art Director of Create. Famously never playing for Saracens, but a keen supporter, Togs runs, surfs and keeps fit so he can indulge in his other pleasure of cooking and eating great food.
Alvaro is a senior designer who works with 2D and 3D animations for bespoke AV installations and large-format MediaWalls. He also works as an editor and with onsite camera work covering events, filming sessions and interviews. He loves animals, music and tapas at all times of the day.
Peter is a multimedia designer with experience in motion graphics, video editing and onsite filming. He has worked on freelance projects creating logos where his design is still proudly used today as a t-shirt print. Besides design work Peter is also a musician who studied the piano for 9 years and self-taught himself the guitar. He is now currently taking on his next challenge – learning the violin.
Tom has a passion for design and branding and enjoys devising interesting ways to connect brands with consumers. In his spare time, he creates music, attempts to write comedy and plays a lot of video games. At the age of 8 he received a Bronze swimming certificate, which isn’t that impressive to be honest.
Jasmine has a passion for editing, filming and live streaming and has been that way since college. Working previously with a live news station, where she edited and live streamed content. When not editing she likes to play games, arcade games and consoles alike. She is a Nintendo Girl at heart, when she isn’t editing or playing games, she reads fantasy novels like Terry Pratchett and draws. But most importantly she loves the Legend of Zelda and is currently collecting all the games!
Simona has a passion for editing and is continuously working on implementing new editing techniques. She also enjoys doing short personal projects where she’s standing behind the camera. Her idea of the perfect break is around the wilderness and especially mountains. She loves theatre, film and music and is very good at singing under the shower. Coffee in the morning and spending time with her friends and family is a must!
Senior Front End Developer
Kyle has recently become a permeant fixture in the office, bringing nearly ten years of experience to the team. He works closely with design to bring alive the innovative features that make Totem Virtual & Hybrid Events stand out. A little-known fact: he used to be an AV tech for local am-dram/charity gigs, which certainly comes in handy here at Totem!
Matt has recently joined the Totem family having honed his QA skills working in a broad variety of industries and roles from International Retail Logistics, Head of Operations for a Soft Toy manufacturer as well as singing in “The Indie Westlife”! He is the proud father of 2 cats and also has 2 sons, enjoys good food and traveling and spends most weekends either out on his bike, or inside shouting at the TV.
Nat has a background in community and corporate events ranging from your typical birthday party bouncy castle to the fabulous Brit awards party. He has also worked in venues such as Buckingham Palace, Windsor castle, the O2 and most memorably the block of flats near Poplar. Nat works in QA as part of the development team responsible for making sure the software is bug-free. He spends his free time climbing and falling off walls.
Ivan studied Visual Arts and has a background in Digital Media and web. He previously worked making digital infographics, designs and web projects for different clients, including international news agencies. He relocated to London to complete an MBA before joining the company.
Ivan likes to be involved in different types of projects. He enjoys diversity across the world of Digital Media to the point of developing different personalities. He has an alter ego known as “The Baron”, a Father Christmas / Santa Claus type character who brings breakfast treats to the office on Fridays and also plays loud music in the evenings. He ate a triple hamburger once while watching an 80s Horror Film Marathon.[/read]
Uma is a seasoned finance professional with extensive experience in providing strategic financial support and setting up finance divisions across a range of businesses. Having worked in property, construction and retail for roughly 25 years she has expanded her skills into HR operations, and Project Management with a keen eye for problem solving and all things credit control! A keen badminton player in her spare time Uma also, having been born in Malaysia and exchanging those sunny climes for the not so sunny UK at a young age, enjoys sharing some delightful food with her family and friends.
Caroline has worked in sales, business development and live events in various industries including travel, insurance, serviced offices and in account management for the NEC. At Totem she focuses on event agencies, insurance and the FMCG sectors, she’s also responsible for the constant nudging of the team to provide pictures for our social media pages. Caroline loves a good red wine, watching the great British Bake Off and should go to the gym more than she does!
Jamie has had a successful and entertaining career within the sports industry along with analytics and digital marketing, working with some incredibly innovative people along the way. At Totem, Jamie looks after our financial services and automotive sectors, assisting prospects in delivering unique insights into events. When Jamie isn’t charging with his children at home, he enjoys playing for and managing his local football team.
Video Production Intern
Ollie is our amazing intern doing a placement with us. He earned a scholarship to study Television Production at Bournemouth University and has already done 2 years there. Ollie hasn’t been with us for long, but he’s already been trained in many roles. Ollie has a passion for football and as we know, his passion for his beloved Arsenal is undeniable. He has travelled the world, seeing some amazing sights and experienced cultures of so many different countries.
Andrea loves building effective relationships, she brings content creation and digital strategy skills to Totem. She has had an interesting career path having worked in TV production, fundraising, digital marketing and even running her own coffee shop. All her skills round up to making her perfectly placed at Totem, where she delivers creative communication, engagement and builds a community of event people. Off work, she likes to take her daughters and dog Juno out for adventure walks. Her skills also extend to the kitchen, she can make a guacamole you will never forget!
Junior Success and Marketing Executive
With a background in commercial law, digital marketing and non-profits, Charlotte has a passion for all things media and business related. She has joined the Totem team as an Account Executive Intern forming part of the Success Team. In her free time, she can be found reading, scrolling through Twitter, binge-watching the latest drama or as a devout cinephile, unable to leave her local cinema.
Office & Production Intern
Connor is an office and production assistant intern who joined at the beginning of February 2022. Connor graduated from St Marys University in Twickenham with a Media Arts degree and went on to work as an editor in live sports and theatre. The LEAP programme has given Connor the opportunity to develop his skills in the Success Team and when he’s not working will without fail be listening to music or a podcast.
Having run the finances of media organisations for almost two decades, Manish jumped onto the Totem train in December 2021. He enjoys working with energetic, inquisitive and creative people and using those qualities to help shape a business. Manish is never happier than when travelling abroad exploring new places and cultures, although the vast majority of his time “on the road” these days is limited to being a chauffeur for his teenage daughters.
Melda is a food, travel and yoga addict! She loves walking around different cities and exploring them, especially London.
You might find her in Turkey, eating kebabs, paella in Ibiza or guacamole in Mexico! However you can guarantee she’ll always be strategically project managing a trip somewhere hot or a night out with friends.
After leaving university Sam worked as a producer/director for Fremantle’s digital sports channels before freelancing as an editor, creating content for brands such as Asos, Superdrug & Google. Alongside his freelance work, Sam produced a reality/drama for broadcast on London Live and directed several shorts before directing a feature film which was released in 2020 on Sky and Amazon. Sam has a passion for football – coaching and playing regularly and supporting West Ham United.
UX UI Designer
Veronica is a new addition to the Totem design team. With a long and lustrous career in event operations she has delivered events worldwide for multiple industries including financial services, social housing, creative and IT. As a UX/UI Designer, she continues her passion for creating memorable journeys and user experiences. Veronica loves the sun and hopes to one day settle on a sunny island with her 2 cats and better half.
Office/ Production Intern
Paige is a production assistant intern who joined the totem team this year. Since graduating in media production in 2017 Paige has always wanted to persue her career in the media industry and to be able to develop her skills within the creative sector. Totems Leap internship has given that opportunity to Paige and Paige is so excited to see her progression within the Totems success team. When Paige isn’t working she is pretending to be marvel characters to keep her crazy 4 year old son entertained.
With six years of experience managing and leading customer success initiatives across the events and hospitality industry, Nick brings his passion for building customer relationships to Totem. His love for creativity and people has led him to collaborate with artists at events across New Zealand and Australia, and he enjoys bringing new ideas to life. He’s also the type of person who reads a restaurants menu weeks before his reservation, feels guilty about his ever-expanding film camera collection (and not using them), and enjoys getting lost on long walks. He’s also a fighting game enthusiast and will accept any and all challengers.
